How to scan a QR code from an image

  1. Save a clear picture or screenshot of the QR code on your device.
  2. Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP image, drag a QR picture onto the scanner, or paste a screenshot while focused inside the scanner.
  3. Select Scan QR code after file upload. For a physical code, select Start camera and allow camera access. Camera scanning needs HTTPS and compatible browser support.
  4. Read the decoded value, then copy it only if it looks correct.

Scan a QR code from a screenshot on a laptop

On Windows, capture the QR square with Win + Shift + S. On a Mac, copy a screenshot to your clipboard. Click within the scanner and press Ctrl + V or Command + V. If pasting is not available, save the screenshot as an image and choose the file instead.

What can a QR code contain?

QR codes can store website addresses, ordinary text, contact-style data, Wi-Fi information, or other structured values. This scanner shows the decoded content as text and does not automatically visit a detected website.

Is a QR code link safe?

A QR code can point to a fake login or payment page. Reading the code does not prove that its destination is safe. Check the exact website address and spelling before opening it. This tool never opens QR links automatically.

Why a QR code might not scan

Blur, glare, missing corners, very small images, heavy compression, or tight cropping can stop a detector from recognizing the code. Try a sharper image that includes the full square and its clear border.

Browser support and privacy

This scanner uses the browser’s built-in Barcode Detection API. It supports PNG, JPEG and WebP images up to 10 MB. Camera and image decoding are not available in every browser. If your browser lacks QR detection, you will see a clear support message instead of an inaccurate result. Images and camera frames are not sent to a remote decoder. Camera permission is only requested after you choose Start camera, and scanning stops when a code is detected or you stop it.

Does this QR scanner upload my image?

No. The page is designed to decode the selected file in the browser when the required browser API is available.

Can it scan a QR code from a screenshot?

Yes, if the screenshot is clear and the browser can detect the full QR code.

Will it open a detected link automatically?

No. The decoded value is shown as text first so you can review it.

Why does my browser say scanning is unsupported?

The built-in Barcode Detection API is not available in every browser. Try a browser that supports QR detection.
